Network Ranks Iowa as 4th Best State for Business 07.28.09

Des Moines, IA-  A leading television business network has listed Iowa as one of the top states in the nation for business.  CNBC ranks Iowa fourth among the 50 states in their annual "Top States for Business" survey.  Iowa was ranked ninth in the same survey in 2008, moving up five spots in just one year.

The survey, which considers several factors, ranks Iowa first in the category of "cost of doing business."

"When it comes to doing business, Iowa works," said Governor Chet Culver.  "From our low cost of doing business to the strength of our economy to our great people, Iowa has rightly earned a spot among the best places in the nation to both live and work."

In their report, CNBC comments: "A model of Midwestern consistency, Iowa has always been a quiet economic power."

The CNBC survey ranks each state on ten different categories.  The following chart compares Iowa's rank in each category for the 2009 and 2008 surveys.
