NW Iowa Farmers Receives Grant 07.06.10

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - More than $1 million in federal agriculture grants are headed to Iowa.
Iowa senators Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin announced the 13 grants on Thursday. The funds come from a rural development grant program run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Among the funding, IowIa, LLC, in Cherokee County is to receive $300,000 to increase its organic acreage and small farm profits. And Allamakee County's Grass Run Farm is to receive more than $200,000 to change its processing and marketing of high-quality meat cuts.
The senators say the money will create new economic opportunities for Iowa farmers and give the state's innovative products a boost.
